CASA of Southwest Michigan is honored to announce that it has received a $50,000 Carolyn’s Kids Grant from the Berrien Community Foundation. The award was presented on October 7, 2026, during the Foundation’s 74th Annual Meeting & Celebration at The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College.
CASA was one of three organizations selected to receive a $50,000 Carolyn’s Kids Grant, recognizing programs that make a meaningful difference in the lives of children throughout our community.
Supporting the Volunteers Who Advocate for Children
This generous funding will directly support CASA of Southwest Michigan’s volunteer recruitment, training, and mileage reimbursement efforts, helping strengthen the program’s ability to advocate for children navigating the foster care system.
CASA volunteers play an essential role in ensuring that children who have experienced abuse or neglect have a dedicated advocate looking out for their best interests. Through ongoing involvement, communication with caregivers and professionals, and advocacy in court, these volunteers help ensure that each child’s voice is heard and their needs remain a priority.
“A CASA volunteer is important to a child as they ensure a child’s voice is heard during their time in (foster) care and that their needs are not forgotten,” shared Trish Conroy, Executive Director of CASA of Southwest Michigan, during the grant announcement.
By investing in the people who serve these children, the Carolyn’s Kids Grant will help CASA continue building a strong network of trained, compassionate advocates.
About the Carolyn’s Kids Grant
The Carolyn’s Kids Grant program was established through the Carolyn Hanson Fund at the Berrien Community Foundation, reflecting Carolyn Hanson’s deep commitment to children and her belief that every child deserves opportunities to thrive.
A partnership between the Hanson Family Foundation and the Berrien Community Foundation, the program supports initiatives that address the changing needs of children and youth, helping create stronger families and brighter futures throughout our community.
A Heartfelt Thank You
CASA of Southwest Michigan extends its sincere gratitude to Carolyn Hanson, the Hanson Family Foundation, and the Berrien Community Foundation for this incredible investment in our mission.
Their generosity will help us recruit and prepare more volunteers, support those already serving, and continue providing a powerful voice for children who need someone standing beside them.
Together, we are helping ensure that children in foster care are heard, supported, and never forgotten.
