CASA Volunteers advocate for the best interests of children who have suffered abuse and neglect and are now in the foster care system. Operating in both St. Joseph and Berrien Counties, we are committed to serving some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

What CASA Volunteers Do

• Investigate: CASA Volunteers thoroughly investigate the facts of the child’s situation by speaking to everyone involved in their life—teachers, doctors, foster parents, and biological family members.
• Communicate: They share vital information with foster care workers, attorneys, and the courts, ensuring that the child’s needs are clearly understood by everyone involved in the case.
• Advocate: CASA Volunteers represent the child’s best interests in courtrooms and beyond, ensuring the child’s voice is heard and prioritized.
• Resource Support: They work to connect children with community resources and services to support their well-being.

CASA Volunteers make sure children don’t get lost in the complexities of the foster care system. They are steadfast champions for stability, safety, and a brighter future for every child they serve.

A Powerful Voice in a Child’s Life

When a child is placed in foster care due to abuse, their entire world is upended. Often, they leave their homes with only the clothes on their backs. Many experience the disruption of being moved through three to four foster homes, which means constantly changing schools, friends, and everything familiar in their lives.

Some are separated from their siblings, with limited or no access to their extended family, old friends, or community. Their foster care workers may change frequently, adding another layer of instability.
